Pen and Strep is indicated to treat systemic infections caused by or associated with organisms sensitive to penicillin and/or streptomycin.

Product Description

  • Composition:

  • Procaine Penicillin 200 mg
  • Dihydrostreptomycin Sulphate 250 mg

·        Indications of use:

For the treatment of systemic infections in cattle, horses and sheep caused by or associated with organisms sensitive to penicillin and/or streptomycin including: Arcanobacterium pyogenes , Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae , Klebsiella pneumoniae , Listeria spp , Mannheimia haemolytica , Pasteurella multocida , Staphylococcus spp (non-penicillinase producing) , Streptococcus spp , Salmonella spp and for the control of secondary bacterial infection with sensitive organisms in diseases primarily associated with viral infection.

·     Dosage and route of administration:

Suspension for Injection A white to off-white aqueous suspension for injection

Shake the vial before use.

Administer by deep intramuscular injection.

Recommended dosage rate is 8 mg/kg bodyweight procaine penicillin with 10 mg/kg bodyweight dihydrostreptomycin sulphate equivalent to 1 ml per 25 kg bodyweight.

Treatment should be given once daily for up to 3 consecutive days.

The maximum dose volume administered at one site should not exceed 15 ml for horses, 6 ml for cattle and 3 ml for sheep .

·        Precautions:

It should not be used in cases of sensitivity to penicillins.

The prescribed amount should not exceed the recommended dose.

A noticeable local reaction may be seen at the site of intramuscular injection in horses.

Be careful of accidental self-injection while injecting the drug. If such a problem occurs, see a doctor immediately.

Penicillins and cephalosporins may cause allergy by injecting, breathing, eating or skin contact. Sensitivity to penicillins can lead to cross-sensitivity to cephalosporins, and on the contrary, sometimes the reaction to these substances may involve serious risks.

Avoid simultaneous administration of this drug with tetracyclines or other aminoglycosides.

Overdose does not require treatment.

Following the first dose of the product, the entire contents of the bottle should be consumed within 28 days
