Composition:
- Each mL contains:
- Atipamezole hydrochloride………………………………………….5,0 mg (equivalent to 4.27 mg base atipamezole)
- Methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218)…………………………1 mg
· Indications of use:
Atipamezole hydrochloride is a selective α-2 agonist used to reverse the sedative effects of medetomidine and dexmedetomidine in cats and dogs.
· Dosage and route of administration:
- Dogs:
5 times the dose (as μg per kg of weight) of medetomidine hydrochloride or 10 times the dose of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride. Equivalent to the same administered volume of medetomidine hydrochloride of 1 mg/mL or the same administered volume of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride of 0,5 mg/mL. Equivalent to 1/5 the administered volume of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride 0.1 mg/mL.
- Cats:
2.5 times the dose (as μg per kg of weight) of medetomidine hydrochloride or 5 times the dose of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride. Equivalent to 1/2 the administered volume of medetomidine hydrochloride 1 mg/mL or 1/2 the administered volume of dexmedetomidine 0.5 mg/mL. Equivalent to 1/10 the administered volume of dexmedetomidine hydrochloride 0.1 mg/mL.
· Interactions and incompatibilities:
Do not use in animals with:
Severe cardiovascular disease, respiratory diseases or impaired liver or kidney function.
Mechanical disturbances of the gastrointestinal tract (gastric torsion incarcerated hernia, oesophageal obstructions).
Diabetes mellitus.
State of shock, emaciation or serious debilitation.
Do not use concomitantly with sympathomimetic amines. Do not use in cases of known hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any other excipients.
Do not use in animals with ocular problems where an increase in intraocular pressure would be harmful.

· Precautions:
- After administration, animals must rest in a quiet place.
- During resuscitation animals must not be left alone.
- Make sure the animal has recovered the swallowing reflex before offering any food or drink.
- Due to the different recommended doses, care must be taken if the veterinary medication is administered in species different to those it is aimed at.
Atipamezole does not reverse the effect of ketamine, which may cause convulsions in dogs and cause cramps in cats when used alone. - Do not use atipamezole between 30 and 40 minutes after administration of ketamine.
- In humans: avoid any contact with the skin, eyes and mucous membranes. In the event of accidental spillage on the skin or eyes, wash the area affected immediately with clean running water. Remove contaminated clothing in direct contact with the skin. Go to the doctor if the irritation persists. Avoid self-injection or accidental ingestion. In the event of self-injection or accidental consumption, go to a doctor immediately and show them the package insert. DO NOT DRIVE.
